What is MA-4018 (AlSi7Mg) used for?

MA-4018 (AlSi7Mg) is an aluminium welding wire for joint and repair welding of AlSi7Mg castings and for wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). The silicon content of the filler should match the cast alloy as closely as possible. The weld metal can be heat-treated: tensile strength rises from 140 MPa as welded to 310 MPa in condition T6.

  • Weld metal (typical): Rm 140 MPa as welded, 310 MPa in T6; Rp0.2 80 MPa as welded, 250 MPa in T6; A5 2 % as welded, 4 % in T6
  • Diameters: MIG wire 1.2–2.4 mm, TIG rods 1.6–5.0 mm (1,000 mm long)
  • Packaging: spools from 0.5 kg (S 100) to 40 kg (B 400); drums: Eco drum 80 kg, Jumbo drum 140 kg, Jumbo XL drum 240 kg; TIG rods in 2.5 kg tubes or 5/10 kg boxes
